To Taiwan, US Approves Potential $2.2 Billion Weapons Sale
The Pentagon said on Monday (8th July 2019), the United States State Department has approved the potential sale to Taiwan of $2.2 billion in arms which including Stinger missiles and Abrams tanks. The announcement is to anger Beijing, which views Taiwan as part of its territory. It has previously expressed serious concerns about the potential sale.

It coincides with other strains in United States-China ties, especially over trade. According to the DSCA (Defense Security Cooperation Agency), Congress has been notified about the possible deal, which would include 108 M1A2T Abrams tanks, about 250 Stinger missiles, related support, and equipment.

Air India on Tuesday (9th July 2019) said, that the pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia after Haj will be allowed to carry holy water from the Zamzam well within the allowed baggage allowance. The well of Zamzam is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and many Haj pilgrims bring the holy water from the well for friends and family.

On 4th July 2019, the sales team of Air India's Jeddah office reportedly wrote to all travel agents stating that till 15th September 2019, due to the change of aircraft and limitation of seats, Zamzam cans will not be allowed on flight Numbers AI964 (Jeddah-Cochin) and AI966 (Jeddah-Hyderabad-Mumbai).

Commonwealth Senior Weightlifting Championship
On Tuesday (9th July 2019), former world champion Mirabai Chanu led the Indian medal rush by notching up gold on the opening day of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship. The Indian contingent won a total of 13 medals that included 8 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals in senior, junior & youth categories.

Mirabai lifted a total of 191 kg (84 kg + 107 kg) in the senior women's 49kg event to win the gold medal in the Olympic qualifying event. In which the points will come in handy for the final rankings of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
