The world marked the 50th anniversary of the 1st Moon landing, the United States space agency said it has twice down on its next giant leap with the Artemis programme that would take the next man and the 1st woman to the moon (lunar surface). After the twin sister of Apollo who is also Goddess of the Moon and the hunt, 'Artemis' is named.

The total cost of the Apollo programme that the United States launched in 1961 and concluded in 1972 was $25 billion and that programme came nearly 50 years ago when 2 astronauts landed on the Moon as part of the Apollo 11th mission, which cost $6 billion at the time, equivalent to $30 billion today.

UN Nuclear Watchdog Chief Yukiya Amano Dies at 72
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Today (22nd July 2019, Monday), An United Nations nuclear watchdog chief Yukiya Amano has died at age 72, just as Amano was ready to step down because of an unspecified disease.

Since 2009, the Yukiya Amano had held the position of IAEA director-general and taking over from Mohamed ElBaradei and steering the United Nations agency through a period of serious diplomacy over Iran's nuclear programme. Yukiya Amano had been preparing to leave his position on March 2019, well before the end of his 3/4th-year term, which ran until 30th Nov 2021.

Chandrayaan-2 Successfully Launched
India moved towards its 2nd tryst with the moon with ISRO's heavy-lift rocket, the GSLV-Mk III (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III) which carrying the 3850 kg Chandrayaan-II spacecraft, blasting off from the Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh spaceport on today (22nd July 2019, Monday) afternoon at exactly 02:43 pm.

The Rs. 375 cr GSLV-Mk III rocket began its ascent into space from the 2nd launch pad at the SDSC (Satish Dhawan Space Centre) here. The 640-ton, 43.4 meters tall rocket nicknamed as 'Bahubali' for as the hero in the successful film lifts a heavy lingam, it carries the 3.8 tonne Chandrayaan-2, which will carry out India's 2nd mission to its closest celestial neighbor.

5th In A Month, Hima Das Won Gold In 400m Race
Hima Das clinched her 5th gold medal in the month after she won the 400m race in Prague, Czech Republic, on Saturday (20th July 2019). The Indian sprinter Das clocked 52.09 seconds to complete the 400m race and registered a season-best timing. However, she has a personal best timing record of 50.79 seconds, which Hima Das recorded at the Asian Games last year.

After the 5th gold medal, she said in a tweet: "Finished 400m today (Saturday, 20th July) on the top here in the Czech Republic". Earlier, Hima Das won gold at 200m by clocked 23.25 seconds in Tabor Athletic Meet on Wednesday (17th July 2019). Before Tabor Athletic Meet, she won 3 gold at different events including a gold medal in Klado Athletic Meet, Poznan Athletics Grand Prix, and Kunto Athletics Meet.

An official said on Monday (July 22, 2019), the former Australian Davis Cup tennis star and Wimbledon doubles champion Peter McNamara has died at age 64. Peter McNamara, a popular figure on the women's and men's tours, reportedly succumbed to prostate cancer.

McNamara has reached a career-high world number 7 in singles, winning 5 titles. The McNamara and McNamee duo twice won Wimbledon, in 1980 and 1982, as well as the 1979 Australian Open.
