On Friday (28th June 2019), President Vladimir Putin invited US President Donald Trump to Russia in May to mark the 75th anniversary of the victory over Adolf Hitler, according to foreign policy advisor Yury Ushakov. Ushakov said, that Trump responded to the invitation in a very positive manner.

Relations between the 2 former superpowers have been strained amid differences over Ukraine, Syria and alleged Russian interference in United States elections. After the July meeting with Putin in Helsinki, Donald Trump ran into criticism for being what was judged at home to be too compliant.

Work Begins On Desalination in Tamilnadu
After a delay of 6 years, Tamilnadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami led the ground-breaking ceremony for an additional desalination plant at Nemmeli, Thanjavur in the outskirts of Chennai, on Thursday (27th June 2019). This comes at the height of the poor drought at Chennai has seen in decades. Late CM J Jayalalithaa had first spoken about the desalination plant on the floor of the TN state assembly in 2013. 

Once set up completed, Rs. 1,259 crore project is expected to provide 150 million liters a day of potable water to the city from 2021. The TN government also plans to begin work on another desalination plant with a capacity of 400 MLD, which will be the 2nd largest unit of the kind, in the near future.
