Mohana Singh Becomes 1st Woman To Fly Hawk Jet
An official statement said on Friday (31st May 2019), Flight Lieutenant Mohana Singh has become the 1st woman fighter pilot to fly by day on a Hawk advanced jet aircraft. The statement said, that the woman officer landed after a difficult 4 aircraft combat sortie at Kalaikunda Air Force station in West Bengal (WB), which was the last syllabus hold a sudden attack of being fully operational on the Hawk jets.

She and 2 other women officers, Avani Chaturvadi and Bhawana Kanth joined the fighter stream in June 2016. Last week, Flight Lt. Bhawana Kanth became the 1st daytime woman fighter pilot to fly a MiG-21 Bison.

New Navy Chief, Admiral Karambir Singh Takes Charge
On Friday (31st May 2019), Admiral Karambir Singh assumed charge as the 24th chief of the Indian Navy, becoming the 1st helicopter pilot to lead the force. Karambir Singh succeeds Admiral Sunil Lanba who retired after a distinguished career spanning over 4 decades. Before appointed to the top post, Karambir Singh served as the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.

The Navy currently has around 220 aircraft, 15 submarines and 132 ships. Admiral Karambir Singh is scheduled to continue in the post till November 2021.

World Cup 2019: Day 2
On Today (31st May 2019, Friday), match 2 between Pakistan vs West Indies at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. After winning the toss, WI skipper Jason Holder's plan of bowling first, worked well for the WI as they bowled out Pakistan for a paltry 105/10 in 21.4 overs. Oshane Thomas led the bowling attack with 4 wickets while West Indies skipper Holder helped him with 3 crucial scalps. Andre Russell struck 2 wickets.

Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman scored 22 each, most runs for Pakistan in their innings. At the end WI innings, West Indies won by 7 wickets, 108/3 (13.4) and Gayle were 50 (34). It was the Pakistan's 2nd lowest World Cup total, their worst being 74 all out against England in Adelaide in 1992.

Every year on 31st May, the The World Health Organisation's World No Tobacco Day is conducted. The day was created to bring awareness to some people about the dangers and health risks of smoking tobacco and ultimately, to stop use of the tobacco around the world.
