To Work For Global Reform, EU Set to Scrap Digital Tax Plan
An EU document shows, European Union finance ministers are set to gutter a plan to introduce an EU wide digital tax on next week of march 2019, but accept to work on a global reform of the taxation of Internet companies.

This move is likely to be welcomed by digital giants such as Facebook and Alphabet's Google who would have fallen under the scope of the envisaged 3% levy. A no. of representatives continue to have fundamental objections, the Romanian presidency of the EU wrote in document prepared ahead of the European Union finance ministers meeting on 12th March. The meeting would be seen as last opportunity to reach a deal on the plan.

On Moon's Far Side, China's Rover Studies Stones
China's lunar rover has conducted scientific detection of stones on far side of the Moon which may help scientists to find out whether they are from outer space or in native of the Moon. On 3rd January 2019, the Jade Rabbit-2 or rover Yutu-2 was sent to the Von Karman Crater in the SPA (South Pole Aitken) basin on the far side of the Moon in the Chang'e-4 mission.

Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday (6th March 2019), the largest stone was detected in the far side of the moon, has a diameter of about 20 cm and the rover came as close to it as 1.2 mtr.

For University Teachers, Cabinet Clears Ordinance On Reservation Roster
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Thursday (7th March 2019), that the Union Cabinet cleared an ordinance on reservation mechanism for appointment the faculties in universities. Early this week, Human Resource Development Minister (HRDM) Prakash Javadekar said, that the centre was committed to restoring the reservation roster in all educational institutions for following a series of protests over the issue by various  teacher's and student's organisations.

They was urging the government to bring an ordinance to restore the 200 point roster taking university/ college as a unit for reservation in teaching posts. The University Grants Commission (UGC) had announced in March 2018 that an individual department should be considered as base unit to calculate the number of teaching post to be reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates, following an order by Allahabad High Court in April 2017.

Official 2 sources with knowledge of the matter said, that India wants to keep buying Iranian oil at it's current level of about 3,00,000 barrels per day, as it talks resolved with Washington about extending a sanctions exemption past early May 2018. A senior official said in January 2019, India has decrease it's purchases of Iranian oil, but has been in talks on extending it's sanctions exemption.

Delhi is asking to allowed to still buy Iranian oil at current levels of around 1.25 million tonnes per month/ 300,000 barrels per day. After President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of a 2015 deal between Iran and 6 world powers, the US immediately execute sanctions against Iran in November 2018 in a dispute over Tehran's nuclear and missile ambitions.

Cabinet Approves Plan to Revive Stressed Thermal Plants
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, the Cabinet on Thursday (7th March 2019) approved a plan to update some of the stressed thermal power plants and set up new coal fired power plants to curb power deficit.

He also said, the power projects of 1320 mega-watts of capacity would be set up in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bihar. The Uttar Pradesh power plant would be built with an investment of Rs. 11,089 crore and the Bihar would cost Rs. 10,439 crore. Mr Jaitley said, that the 2 power projects would start operations from 2023-2024.

Prime Minister Modi Releases New Coins
On Today (March 7, 2019 Thursday), PM Narendra Modi released a new series of coins to help those Visually Impaired. The coins are in the denomination of Rs. 1 (One), Rs. 2 (Two), Rs. 5 (Five), Rs. 10 (Ten) and Rs. 20 (Twenty). The coins was released by Prime Minister Modi at a function at his home in New Delhi. In the function, so many blind children were invited.

PM Modi said, that the new circulation coins with various differentiating features will help the visually impaired. An official release said, that various new features was included in the new series of circulation coins to make them useful to the visually impaired (VI). The weight and size of the coins increases from lower to higher denominations. The newly added coin of Rs. 20 is 12 sided. The rest of coins are round in shape.

Cabinet Approves 3 New Delhi Metro Corridors
On Thursday (7-3-2019), the Centre gave an in principle approval to 3 of the 6 new Delhi Metro corridors under Phase IV of the network. The government was approved the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram (28.92 km), Mukundpur-Maujpur (12.54 km) and Tughlakabad-Aerocity (20.20 km) sections.

This will add to the existing 350 km long Delhi Metro network. The lines will have 29 elevated stations and 17 under-ground with 15 between Aerocity and Tughlakabad and 6 between Maujpur and Mukundpur and 25 stations between Janakpuri and RK Ashram. The other 3 lines which are yet to receive the Union Cabinet's approval are Inderlok-Indraprastha, Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block and Rithala-Bawana. The total cost for this project will be Rs. 24,948.65 crore in an equal sharing pattern with the Delhi government.

India Women Lose 2nd T20 International
On Thursday (7th March 2019), India women suffered a 5 wicket defeat against England in the 2nd T20 International (T20I) played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. To chasing a 112 runs to win the series, England reached the target in just 19.1 overs. Opening bats-woman Danielle Wyatt remained unbeaten till end of the game and got the visitor's run chase.

She made 64 runs from just 55 balls which included 6 boundaries. Indian women team failed to grab their chance when they put England on the back foot at 56/4 in 11th over as Lauren Winfield stitched a 47 run stand for the fifth wicket with Wyatt to take England home. Wyatt held one end firm on the way to her 4th half century in T20, England got 3 back to back boundaries by Win field to take the game away from India.
