The Asahi newspaper reported on Sunday (17th February 2019), Japanese PM Shinzo Abe nominated United State President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize last autumn after receiving a request from US government to do so. The report follows Trump's claim on Friday(15th Feb 2019), that Shinzo Abe had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize for easing tensions and opening talks with North Korea.

Trump said at a White House news conference, The Japanese leader Shinzo had given him the most beautiful copy of a 5 page nomination letter. After Trump's summit in June last year (2018) with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the US government had sounded Abe out over the Noble Peace Prize nomination.

During the height of Space Age, between 1966 and 1976, the US and the Soviet Union bushwhacked a frantic path to the lunar surface, landing nearly 20 spacecraft softly on the moon which including the 6 carrying NASA's Apollo astronauts.

But after last of these missions, a robotic Soviet probe that brought back 6 ounces of lunar soil and Earth's closest neighbor was virtually abandoned. Then the politicians and public lost interest. In more than 42 years, only one spacecraft touched down softly on the lunar surface that is "China's Chang'e 3" in 2013. So, now NASA wants to get to the moon, but India and China are racing there, too.

Iran Launches New Fateh Submarine
State TV said, Iran on sunday (17th February 2019) launched a new locally made submarine which is capable of firing cruise missiles. The launch ceremony has led by President Hassan Rouhani and function took place in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas. Rouhani said, today (18th February 2019), the Islamic Republic of Iran is fully self reliant on air, sea and land.

He also said, Our defensive power is meaning to defend our interest and we have never sought to attack any country. Fars news agency said, the new submarine (named the Fateh) is Iran's first in the semi heavy category. Fars said, that the near 600 tonne underwater vessel is equipped with naval mines and torpedoes in addition to cruise missiles and it can operate more than 200 metres below sea level for up to 35 days.

Court Orders Arrest of Ex-Maldives President Abdulla Yameen
Official Said on today (February 18, 2019), the Maldivian authorities ordered the arrest of former strongman ex-president Abdulla Yameen over money laundering charges. The arrest came after a court began a basic hearing into allegations that Yameen received nearly $1.5 million in illegal payments before he lost his re-election bid in September.

Prosecutors said, that Abdulla Yameen had allegedly attempted to bribe witnesses. A court official said, that the ex-president would be taken to the Dhoonidhoo prison island near the capital of Maldivian.

On February 21, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das to Meet Bank Heads
On Monday (18th February 2019), Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das said, that he will meet heads of private and public sector banks heads this week to discuss transmission of interest rate cut to borrowers. After Finance Minister Arun Jaitley addressed the board of the central bank, speaking to reporters, he said transmission of monetary policy decisions is important.

Also said he will meet the private and public sector banks heads on 21st February 2019. Earlier this month, the Reserve Bank of India cut the benchmark interest rate by 0.25% to 6.25%.

New Pension Scheme For Unorganized Workers
Reported news agency Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) said, the Indian government has already started the registration process under the PM-SYM (Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan Dhan) scheme.

Announced in the Interim Budget, the PM-SYM pension scheme is aimed the persons who engaged in the unorganized sector in the group of aged 18 years to 40 years with a monthly income of up to Rs. 15,000 per month based on the labour ministry's website - labour.gov.in. According to the ministry, each people who comes under the PM-SYM scheme will receive a minimum assured pension of Rs. 3,000 per month after attaining of age 60 years.

Caster Semenya Takes Gender Rule Challenge to Sports Court
On Today (18th February 2019, Monday), Olympic 800 metres champion South Africa's Caster Semenya goes to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to challenge proposed rules that would force her to lower her testosterone level.

The South African government has said, that the rules proposed by track and field governing body, the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations), specifically target Caster Semenya and has called her a gross violation of human rights. The controversial rules would force so called "hyperandrogenic" athletes/ differences of sexual development to take drugs to lower testosterone levels below a prescribed amount if they wish to compete.
