Against Land Acquisition for Rail Project Madras Court Dismisses 40 Pleas
For the Mass Rapid Transit System project, clearing an 8 year old road block in completion of the final 500 mtr of St Thomas Mount extension, Velachery, the Madras High Court has dismissed a batch of 40 petitions challenging the land acquisition. The Madras court said, if they were not happy with the compensation awarded for their land, the petitioners were free to continue the solution available to them under the Right to Fair Compensation Act. 

This project covers a distance of 5 km and will provide a link to sub-urban and metro rail services to passengers in the city. Nearly 98% of the work covering a distance of 4.5 km has been completed and 0.5 km distance were remaining to complete. In the petitions, the acquisition of private lands for the incomplete portion was challenged.

At 10:28 am EST, the Engineers at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland cheered when the spacecraft's first signals came via National Aeronautics and Space Agency's Deep Space Network. The nuclear powered space probe an apparently peanut shaped, has traveled 6.4 billion km to come within 3,540 km of Ultima Thule, 32 km long space rock in the uncharted heart of the Kuiper Belt. Just outside Neptune's orbit, the belt is a ring of icy celestial bodies.

For Pakistan, China Building Most Advanced Naval Warships
State media reported, China is building the first most advanced naval warships out of four for its all weather ally Pakistan as a part of a major bilateral arms deal to ensure among other things balance of power in the strategic Indian Ocean. The official said, that the warship under construction is a version of the China's Navy most advanced guided missile frigate. 

The CSSC said, the warship is being constructed at its Hudong Zhonghua shipyard in Shanghai, but they did not specify the warship's type. China daily quoted state owned defence contractor, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) saying, the ship were equipped with modern detection and weapon systems, it will be capable of anti submarine, anti ship and air defence operations,

The Indian President Ram Nath Kovind has nominated the Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri as Executive Chairman of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). 

AK Sikri will be replacing Justice Madan B Lokur. The NALSA (National Legal Services Authority) has been set to provide free Legal Services to the weaker sections of the society under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

Centre has Approves Renaming of Allahabad to 'Prayagraj'
To rename Allahabad as Prayagraj, the Union Home Ministry has approved the proposal of the Uttar Pradesh Government. The government of UP has said, that the renaming is restoring the original name of the city. 

The Uttar Pradesh government said, that the city was named during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Akbar called the city as Illahabas which is meaning the abode of God. Before renaming by Mughal Emperor Akbar, the city was called as Prayag.

In Lok Sabha, Government Introduces Aadhaar Amendment Bill
On 2nd January 2019, Wednesday, the Indian government introduced an amendment bill in Lok Sabha to provide legal backing for voluntary seeding of bio-metric Aadhaar ID with 10 digit mobile numbers and valid bank accounts after the Supreme Court ban mandatory use of the 12 digit unique identifier by private firms. 

As the Oppositions raised worries, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad stressed that the proposed amendment is in compliance with the Supreme Court judgement and that there will be no violation of privacy. He also said, that the Indian government has prepared a data protection bill and it will be shortly introduced in Parliament.
