Prime Minister Modi Inaugurates Bogibeel Bridge
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was Inaugurated Assam's Bogibeel Bridge (India's longest railroad bridge) to traffic on 25th December 2018. The 4,940 mtr (almost 5 Km) structure spans the waters of the mighty Brahmaputra River. The Chief Engineer Mohinder Singh said, it is India's only fully welded bridge for which European codes and welding standards were followed to for the first time in the country. 

The Bogibeel bridge was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 5900 Cr and it has a serviceable period of around 120 years. This bridge will reduce travel time from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh to 4 hours and will cut out the another way of over 170 km via Tinsukia.

On Wednesday (26th December 2018), the former Australian captain Ricky Ponting became the 25th Australian Cricketer to be officially inducted into the ICC (International Cricket Council) Hall of Fame at the iconic MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) in the presence of thousand supporters. 

A 3 time World Cup winner, Ricky Ponting did a lap of honor as part of his induction during the tea break on Day 1 of the India vs Australia Boxing Day Test. The former Australian Ponting joins compatriots Shane Warne, Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist and Glenn McGrath in the prestigious club. He also joins the list alongside England's Claire Taylor and India's Rahul Dravid this year, increasing the total members in the Hall of Fame to 87.

Rafi Award Conferred to Late Music Composer Laxmikant, Singer Usha Timothy
The Mohammed Rafi Award has been granted to late music composer Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar and a playback singer Usha Timothy. This award was instituted by an NGO headed by Mumbai's BJP Chief Ashish Shelar. Kudalkar, Laxmikant Pyarelal duo was given the Mohammed Rafi Lifetime Achievement Award which consisting of Rs. One lakh along with trophy and the award was received by his daughter. 

Usha Timothy was honored with the award and Rs. 51,000 at a programme held in suburban district. Kudalkar formed a long and successful partnership with Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma as music composers. Usha Timothy has sung over 1000 songs in multiple Indian languages such as Malayalam, Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi and Bhojpuri.

South Africa pace bowler Dale Steyn has set a new milestone. During the 1st Test of ongoing 3 match Test series between Pakistan and South Africa, Dale Steyn dismissed Fakhar Zaman to become the highest Test wicket taker for the Proteas. Steyn was impressed by his teammates after Zaman edged the ball to Dean Elgar at third slip, reducing Pakistan to 17 runs for 2 wickets after winning the toss and batting first. In July 2018, Steyn took his 400th Test wicket in his 80th Test. It was the 2nd fastest in the world to reach the milestone.

Child Care Institutes in Haryana Renamed as "Jagannath Ashrams"
On 25th December 2018, Tuesday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced the renaming of Child Care Institutes being run in the state as "Jagannath Ashrams". During a dance competition organized by women wing of All India Vaish Federation, the announcement was made by Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar with consent of representatives of the institutions and children present there. 

After announcing Chief Minister said, that all the Child Care Institutions have a similar goal of development of the children. So it would be appropriate to give a single name to all child care.
