In each and every year of 11th December, International Mountain Day was celebrated. In 2003, it was established by the UN General Assembly to encourage sustainable development in mountains. Almost more than one billion people live in mountain areas and half the human population depends on mountains for food, clean energy and water. 

This day is organize to raise awareness about domestic people and minorities who live in mountain environments and the related of their traditions, customs and cultural heritage. In 2010, the International Mountain Day was "Mountain Minorities and Indigenous Peoples". The Mountain Day is a national holiday in Japan as of 2016.

Senior Kerala Congress Leader CN Balakrishnan Dies At 87
Today (11th December 2018), a former Kerala Minister and Senior Congress Leader CN Balakrishnan died at 87 in private hospital in Kochi due to pneumonia. He is survived by his wife and 2 daughters. 

In 2011, Mr. Balakrishnan 1st contested polls and become the state Cooperation Minister in the Oommen Chandy cabinet. For a long standing assistant of former Kerala CM K Karunakaran, CN Balakrishnan was the Thrissur district Congress committee president for 17 years.

On Monday (10th December 2018), India successfully test fired nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni 5 from Dr Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha. The missile Agni-5 has a strike range of 5000 km. 

A defence sources said, that Agni-V is the 7th trail of the Indigenously developed surface to surface. The Agni-5 is a 3 stage missile which is 2 metres wide, 17 metres tall and capable of carrying 1.5 tonne of nuclear warheads.

NASA's Voyager 2 research has now become only the 2nd human mad object to enter interstellar space after 41 years. It already did by twin Voyager 1 in 2012. Now the Voyager 2 is 18 billion kilometers away compared to Voyager 1 at 21.6 billion km. 

The both Voyager offering a measure of how far the empire of the Sun stretches. As NASA explains, the Voyager 2 takes 300 years to enter the inner edge of the Oort Cloud, a collection of small objects still affected by the gravity of Sun.

On Asteroid Bennu, NASA's Probe Finds Water
NASA's Origins, Resource Identification, Spectral Interpretation, Security Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) mission has found water locked inside the asteroid Bennu. 

The NASA's 1st mission OSIRIS-Rex were launched in September 2016 to collect sample from an asteroid. For more than 2 years and over 2 billion km, OSIRIS-REx spacecraft travelling through space and reached Bennu on December 3rd. 

On 2023, the samples of this material are returned by the mission to Earth. The scientists will receive a treasure trove of new information about the history & evolution of our solar system.

Since 1985, Telangana Rashtra Samithi President K Chandrashekar Rao track record of never losing an election. Now he was re-elected from the Gajwel Assembly Constituency with a huge margin.

K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is popularly known as Mr. Rao and he defeated his nearest rival V Pratap Reddy of the Congress by over 50,000 votes. KCR was elected from Siddipet in 6 consecutive elections since 1985. Mr. Rao only defeat was in 1983 in the same constituency when made his debut with TDP.

In Mizoram, the ruling Congress is all set to be removed which is its only Northeast stronghold. The opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) which has been out of power for ten years. According to the Election Commission, the MNF has grabbed 26 seats, Congress have won 5 seats and Independents has won 7 seats.

Two time CM and Congress leader Lal Thanhwala has lost both Serchhip and Champhai South seats. He lost to MNF TJ Lalnuntulanga in Champhai South and loss in Serchhip to ZPM (Zoram People's Movement). This was the seat, he won for a 7 times since 1984 to 1998.

Today (11th December 2018), the Congress (INC) president Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference, after poll trends indicates massive gains for his party in Madhya Pradesh (MP), Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. He thanked the workers of the Indian National Congress party.

INC grabbed 68 seats in Chhattisgarh, 114 seats in Madhya Pradesh and 99 seats in Rajasthan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the defeat in 3 states.
