International Students Day

International Students Day is an international observance of the student community which is held annually on 17th November. Originally in memory the Nazi storming of Czech universities in 1939 and the subsequent killing & sending of students to concentration camps. It is now marked by a number of universities. Death Anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai (1865 - 1928)

In 17th November, Orissa observes the death anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai (Lion of Punjab), a leader in the Indian freedom fight from the British Raj. He was born on 28th January 1865, Dhudike, India. He was popularly known as Punjab Kesari. One of the famous Indian Politician and writer, outspoken in his advocacy of a militant anti-British nationalism in the Indian National Congress and as a leader of the Hindu supremacy movement. During World War I, Lala Lajpat Rai lived in United States, where he founded the Indian Home Rule League of America (1917) in New York.

The superintendent of police, James A. Scott ordered the police to lathi charge the protesters and personally assaulted Lajpat Rai. He was injured in the protest. He did not fully recover from his injuries and died on 17th November 1928 of a heart attack.

India's First Wildlife Elephant Hospital Opens in Mathura

The Wildlife SOS Hospital for Elephants is opened in Churmura village near Mathura, Uttar Pradesh State on 16th Nov 2018, Friday. Formally, the hospital was opened by Agra Divisional Commissioner Anil Kumar at Farah block Churmura village. 

The hospital is designed to make treatment injured, geriatric or sick elephants. There are lot of facilities is available in this hospital. The lifting machine is there to move the injured elephants for medical hoist and also the elephant restraining device is available with a dedicated indoor treatment which is enclosure for long duration medical procedures.

This medical centre offers Laser Treatment, Wireless Digital X-ray, Thermal Imaging, Dental X-ray, Hydrotherapy, Quarantine and Ultra-Sonography facilties. An observation deck will allows the veterinary students to observe and learn about elephant's behavior and to done treatment from a safe distance.

'Train 18', the fully air conditioned train which is driven by a self propulsion module and it can run at a speed of up to 160 kmph. The Train-18 was developed by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Perambur, Chennai. The Rs. 100 Cr train is the first long distance train without a separate locomotive/ engine comes with technical features for enhanced quick acceleration.

The contain 16 compartment along with 1128 seats. The Train 18 have lot technology in it like Wifi, GPS, CCTV, Air Conditioner. Modern Restroom, Modern Meals Preparation room and also delivery facility. The engine less train test flow is happened today (17-11-2018) from Bareilly to Moradabad section, Uttar Pradesh state.

1023 Fast Track Courts to be Set Up Under Nirbhaya Fund

Ministry said, the project has a total financial implication of Rs. 767.25 Cr. In the first schedule, 777 Fast Track Courts may be set up in 9 states, and in second schedule, 246 FTSCs will be set up. The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) has decided to use Nirbhaya Fund to set up 1023 fast track courts to dispose off pending cases of rape of children and women.

An American company (Sky Lab) has capture released a stunning image of world's largest statue from space. The 597 ft Statue of Unity of India's Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel (Iron Man) statue was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kevadiya in Gujarat on 31st October 2018 and was built at an estimated cost of Rs. 2989 Cr.

The statue is 177 ft higher than China's Spring Temple Buddha which was the tallest statue till now. It is twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty in New York.

Decorated war Veteran Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri died in a private hospital in Mohali near Chandigarh on 17th Nov 2018, Saturday. He was 78 years old.

Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, who was an Army Major during 1971 India - Pakistan war, had held his post through the night in the famous battle of Longewala in Rajasthan along with just 120 men against a attack by advancing Pakistani Patton tanks.

The feat of Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri and his men was later featured in Bollywood movie named as "Border" which was released in 1997 and his role played by actor Sunny Deol.

JNU has Cuts Library Budget to One-Fourth

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) on Friday said that the university has decreased its library budget from Rs. 8 Cr to less than Rs. 2 Cr and also doesn't have funds to renew the subscription of e-journals, a crucial tool for research.

India Wants to Buy 'Romeo' Anti Submarine Choppers From US for $2 Billion

India has sent a letter of request to US for an "Urgent Requirement" of 24 multi role MH 60 Romeo 'Sea Hawk' helicopters at an estimated cost of $2 billion. The deal is expected to be finalized in a few months. The people familiar with this matter said, the days after US Vice President Mike Pence held a successful meeting with PM Narendra Modi in Singapore on the sidelines of a regional summit.

Alyque Padamsee, died in Mumbai today (17th Nov 2018, Saturday). He was 90.

Alyque Padamsee noted ad guru and theatre personality. Mr. Alyque Padamsee was best known for his role as Muhammad Ali Jinnah in 1982 historcial drama named as "Gandhi". Widely he was called "Brand Father of Indian advertising". Mr. Padamsee was the brain behind several iconic Indian ad campaigns including the Liril girl, Lalitaji for Surf, Cherry Charlie for Cherry Blossom Shoe Polish, MRF muscle man, the Hamara Bajaj and many others. He was awarded Padmashri in 2000 and it was named "Advertising Man of the Century" by The Advertising Club in Mumbai.
